It’s almost time for Apple’s annual event, where the much-awaited iPhone 15 series is set to be unveiled. With the rumours buzzing around, we can expect major changes in the standard iPhone 15 models.

From updated camera technology to new display designs, new colors, buttons, and faster charging speeds of up to 35W, some features have (almost) been confirmed in these new phones… but some of them are not!

Now a new rumor spoiled one of the remaining secrets, claiming Apple’s notch phones will have a new high-end name, too: iPhone 15 Ultra, as a replacement for the Pro Max (following its usage of the Ultra moniker for last year’s Apple Watch and even for its silicon).

So, what changes can we anticipate for the iPhone 15 series this year? Here’s what we have discovered so far!

    iPhone 15 at a glance

    • iPhone 15 and Plus: Featuring stunning 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays with Dynamic Island technology and smaller bezels to provide immersive visuals. A16 processor with 6GB LPDDR5 RAM, improved battery life, U2 chip for increased security and connectivity, USB-C replacing Lightning for faster data transfer and charging, and traditional mute switch replaced with a solid-state button for design refinements.
    • iPhone 15 Pro & Ultra: Wide 6.1-inch & 6.7-inch displays with ProMotion and Dynamic Island technology. Slimmest bezels and gracefully rounded corners for more grip and elegance, A17 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 2TB option for seamless performance and storage. USB-C replaces Lightning and offers a significant improvement in battery performance with the addition of a U2 chip. Even the traditional mute switch sees innovation as it’s replaced by the versatile Action Button.

With unparalleled capabilities, the iPhone 15 Ultra raises the bar. Boasting potential features like a periscope lens delivering 6x optical zoom and support for pristine 8K video recording.

    Features

    • Camera upgrade: Both the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models are expected to inherit the impressive 48-megapixel camera sensor previously featured in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. This represents a significant leap from the 12-megapixel camera that characterized the past three generations.
    • Pro models: The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max variants are poised to elevate the photography experience even further. These models are rumored to introduce an enhanced periscope lens, designed to deliver even more vibrant and detailed imagery.
    • Sleeker bezels: The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are projected to maintain a design reminiscent of their predecessors, the iPhone 14 Pro models. With 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED displays, as well as a Dynamic Island camera cutout for Face ID hardware. Bezels that are thinner while maintaining flat displays with subtly curved edges.
    • New colors: Reports suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro models could have dark blue color familiar to the iPhone 12 Pro, but with deeper gray undertones for an added sense of sophistication. Additionally, there have been whispers of a potential dark red color option, reminiscent of maroon or burgundy hues.
    • Functionality shift: While the volume buttons are likely to remain unchanged, the “Action” button may replace the traditional mute switch (inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra’s Action button, for more customizable functionalities).
    • Improved efficiency: Across all iPhone 15 models, an anticipated improvement could come in the form of a more power-efficient OLED display driver chip. Manufactured using a 28nm process, this chip aims to limit power consumption, potentially leading to better battery longevity.

    A17 Bionics

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will feature an exclusive upgraded 3nm A17 chip, enhancing speed and efficiency. Meanwhile, iPhone 15 models will retain the A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro series. This A17 chip provides better performance & improved battery life.

The iPhone 15 Pro lineup will incorporate an enhanced USB-C port, offering swifter USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 transfer speeds. Additionally, all iPhone 15 models will employ the same 5G Qualcomm modem chip for connectivity. While the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max/Ultra will share most features, a significant distinction lies in the telephoto camera lens.
